SEO & Local Search
Google Search Console charts are useful - and incomplete. Pair clicks and impressions with intent, conversions, local presence, competitors, and AI surfaces before changing strategy.

Google Search Console is one of the most useful free datasets a site owner has. It is also one of the easiest to misread when a single screenshot becomes the whole argument in a meeting.
Clicks, impressions, average position, and CTR describe how Google Search reported your pages for the queries it associates with you. They do not show map-pack calls that never hit the site, review-driven decisions, competitor page quality, or whether an assistant named a peer instead of you.
Use GSC as evidence - not as a verdict. Pair it with conversions, a stable competitor set, local listing strength, and a short commercial keyword board. Related: /resources/organic-traffic-down-is-seo-failing and /resources/traffic-dropped-but-leads-didnt.
CLIXERA puts search signals next to local, reviews, website, and AI readiness where supported, then turns gaps into Growth Hub work. No ranking or traffic guarantees. Try: https://app.clixera.ca/try. Plans: https://app.clixera.ca/subscribe.
Search performance for queries and pages Google associates with your property - not total business demand or competitive truth.
Impressions and clicks are invaluable for spotting query-level movement. Average position is a blended number that can hide wins and losses inside the same chart. CTR depends on SERP layout as much as snippet quality.
Date-range tricks matter. Comparing unequal windows, mixing branded and non-branded, or screenshotting a spike week without query filters produces false urgency. Related: /resources/google-rankings-vs-business-results.
Query and page filters on money URLs, matched to conversions and peer gaps.
One total-clicks chart presented as proof SEO succeeded or failed.
Maps calls, reviews, website clarity, competitor pages, AI naming samples.
Local pack and profile interactions often generate phone calls without a corresponding organic session. Review velocity changes choice even when GSC positions look flat. Website speed and trust kill conversion while impressions hold.
AI Overviews and other answer surfaces can change click share without removing your brand from consideration - or can elevate a peer you never see in a classic click chart. Guides: /resources/is-seo-still-worth-it-with-ai-overviews and /resources/why-google-rank-but-not-in-ai.
| Blind spot | Why GSC alone misses it | What to add |
|---|---|---|
| Map / GBP calls | Many contacts never become site sessions | Profile insights, call tracking, listing quality vs peers |
| Review influence | Not a Search Console metric | Review volume, recency, response quality vs competitors |
| Conversion quality | Clicks are not leads | Form/call outcomes by landing page |
| Competitor pages | GSC is your property only | Stable peer set and gap notes on money queries |
| SERP / AI layout | CTR moves without ranking collapse | Query-level SERP notes and Overview sampling |
| Tracking changes | Property or filter changes fake trends | Confirm settings before declaring a crisis |
Segment branded vs non-branded. Isolate service and location pages that produce work. Compare equal date ranges. Annotate known site changes, outages, and seasonality.
When clicks fall, ask whether impressions and positions on money queries fell too. When they did not, look at SERP layout and conversion before rewriting the whole site. Method: /resources/organic-traffic-down-is-seo-failing.

Annotate, segment, add outcomes and peers, then prioritize a few gaps.
That is closer to a competitive action loop than a screenshot debate. Product framing: /competitor-intelligence-software, /local-seo-competitor-analysis, /ai-search-visibility.
